Meet our President
As a community musician, literacy and creative arts consultant, and event organiser, Cathy Welsford has directed ukulele groups, community and conservatorium choirs and co-directed large ukulele, choral and arts events in Australia including the The Valla Beach Ukulele Camp and Beach Party, The Armidale International Women’s Comedy Festival, The Uralla YouthFest.
She teaches her local group, The Valla Beach Garage Band, ‘in the garage’ and concurrently via Zoom. She is one half of The Wild Women of Anywhere Beach performing and running exciting ukulele workshops for ukulele groups and at folk festivals in Australia, New Zealand, and online internationally.
Cathy is an accredited Level 3 Ukulele teacher with the James Hill Ukulele Initiative and was a founding member and the inaugural president of AUTLA, the Australian Ukulele Teachers and Leaders Association Inc.

Meet our Committee Member
Dan is a Primary School Music Teacher at a school in Victoria. He has been a music and drama educator for 29 years. With a passion for using the ukulele as a teaching tool, he also believes that everyone should give playing the uke a go. He leads the primary school orchestra, the school parent’s uke band, plays in a ukulele rock band and is also known to take the microphone in a solo set here or there. Seen running workshops at ukulele festivals up and down the East Coast of Australia, he takes great delight in describing a ukulele skill in just the right way to make sense to the person listening to him and then turning around to describe exactly the same thing in a different way so that it makes sense to the next person as well.
Meet Our Treasurer
Ben is a primary school teacher and uke player. He also plays guitar and bass but don’t judge him for that. Ben has been playing with the Ukes of Hazzard in and around Hobart for many happy years. Weirdly, Ben also has an Economics degree and is treasurer of AUTLA.
